Розділ 15

1 І сталося по то́му, і завів собі Авесалом по́воза та коні, та п'ятдесят чоловіка, що бігали перед ним.

2 І вставав Авесалом рано, та й ставав при дорозі до брами. І, бувало, кожного чоловіка, що мав супере́чку та йшов до царя на суд, то Авесалом кликав його та й питав: „З якого ти міста?“ І той говорив: „З одно́го з Ізраїлевих племен твій раб“.

3 І говорив до нього Авесалом: „Дивися, слова́ твої добрі та слушні, та в царя нема кому тебе вислухати“.

4 І говорив Авесалом: „Коли б мене настановлено суддею в Краю́, то до мене прихо́див би кожен чоловік, що мав би супере́чку чи судо́ву справу, а я випра́вдував би його“.

5 І, бувало, коли хто підхо́див поклонитися йому, то він простягав свою руку, і хапав його́ та цілував його́.

6 І робив Авесало́м, як ось це, усьому Ізраїлеві, хто прихо́див на суд до царя. І крав Авесалом серця́ Ізраїлевих людей!

7 І сталося в кінці сорока літ, і сказав Авесало́м до царя: „Піду́ я та ви́повню обі́тницю мою, що я обіцяв був Господе́ві в Хевро́ні.

8 Бо раб твій, коли осів був у Ґешу́рі в Арамі, склав обі́тницю, говорячи: Якщо Господь справді поверне мене до Єрусалиму, то я бу́ду служити Господе́ві“.

9 І сказав йому цар: „Іди з миром!“ І той устав та й пішов до Хеврону.

10 І порозсилав Авесалом виві́дувачів по всіх Ізраїлевих племенах, говорячи: „Коли ви почуєте су́рмлення сурми́, то скажете: Зацарював Авесало́м у Хевроні!“

11 А з Авесаломом пішли двісті чоловіка з Єрусалиму, що були покликані; а йшли вони в простоті́ своїй, і нічо́го не знали.

12 І послав Авесалом покликати ґілонянина Ахіто́фела, Давидового дора́дника, з його міста з Ґіло, як він мав прино́сити жертви. І був то сильний бунт, і народ все змножувався з Авесало́мом.

13 І прийшов вісник до Давида, говорячи: „Серце ізра́їльтян стало за Авесаломом“.

14 І сказав Давид до всіх своїх слуг, що були з ним в Єрусалимі: „Уставайте і втікаймо, а то не зможемо втекти перед Авесаломом. Поспішіть відійти, щоб він не поспішив і не догнав нас, і щоб не було нам від нього лиха, і не побив цього міста ві́стрям меча“.

15 І сказали цареві царські́ раби: „Усе, що вибере наш пан цар, то при то́му твої раби!“

16 I вийшов цар та ввесь його дім пі́шки, а цар позоставив десять жіно́к наложниць, щоб стерегли дім.

17 І вийшов цар та ввесь народ пішки, і стали вони в Бет-Гамерхаку.

18 А всі його слу́ги йшли перед ним, а також усі керетяни й усі пелетяни та всі ґатяни, — шість сотень чоловіка, що прийшли були пі́шки з Ґату, ішли перед царем.

19 А цар сказав до ґатянина Ітта́я: „Чого пі́деш і ти з нами? Вернися, і сиди з тим царем, бо ти чужий та й вигна́нець зо свого місця.

20 Учора прийшов ти, а сьогодні я мав би турбувати тебе йти з нами? А я йду, куди піду́, — куди доведе́ться. Вернися, і забери братів своїх із собою. А Господь учинить тобі милість та правду!“

21 І відповів Ітта́й до царя та й сказав: „Як живий Господь і живий мій пан цар, — тільки в то́му місці, в якому бу́де мій пан цар, — чи то на смерть, чи то на життя, — то там буде твій раб!“

22 І сказав Давид до Іттая: „Іди й перейди!“ І перейшов ґатянин Іттай та всі його люди, та всі діти, що були з ним.

23 А ввесь той Край плакав ревним голосом, і ввесь народ перехо́див. А цар перехо́див поті́к Кедро́н, і ввесь народ перехо́див доро́гою до пустині.

24 А ось ішли й Садо́к та всі Левити з ним, що не́сли ковчега Божого заповіту. І вони поставили Божого ковчега, а Евіята́р прино́сив цілопалення, аж поки ввесь наро́д не вийшов із міста.

25 І сказав цар до Садока: „Поверни Божого ковчега до міста. Якщо я знайду́ милість у Господніх оча́х, і Він поверне мене, то я побачу Його та ме́шкання Його.

26 А якщо Він скаже так: Не бажаю тебе, — ось я: нехай зробить мені, як добре в оча́х Його́“.

27 І сказав цар до священика Садо́ка: „Чи ти бачиш це все? Вернися з миром до міста, а син твій Ахіма́ац та син Евіятарів Йоната́н, оби́два ваші сини будуть із вами.

28 Глядіть, я буду проволікати в степа́х цієї пусти́ні, аж поки не при́йде від вас слово, щоб повідо́мити мене“.

29 І повернув Садо́к та Евіятар Божого ковчега до Єрусалиму, та й осілися там.

30 А Давид схо́див узбіччям на го́ру Оливну, та все плакав. А голова його була покрита, і він ішов бо́сий. А ввесь народ, що був із ним, усі позакривали го́лову свою, і все йшли та плакали...

31 А Давидові доне́сли, говорячи: „Ахіто́фел серед зрадників з Авесало́мом“. І Давид сказав: „Господи, учини ж нерозумною Ахітофелову раду!“

32 І сталося, коли вийшов Давид на верхі́в'я, де вклоняються Богові, аж ось навпроти нього аркеянин Хуша́й у роздертій ту́ніці, а порох на його голові.

33 І сказав йому Давид: „Якщо ти пі́деш зо мною, то будеш мені тягаре́м.

34 А якщо ве́рнешся до міста й скажеш Авесаломові: „Я буду раб твій, о ца́рю! Я був віддавна рабом батька твого, а тепер я твій раб“, то зламаєш мені Ахіто́фелеву раду.

35 І чи ж не будуть там із тобою священики Садо́к та Евіята́р? І станеться, — усяку річ, яку ти почуєш із царе́вого дому, розповіси́ священикам Садо́кові та Евіята́рові.

36 Ось там із ними двоє їхніх синів: Ахіма́ац у Садока та Йонатан у Евіята́ра — і ви пошлете через них до мене кожне слово, яке почуєте“.

37 І ввійшов Хуша́й, Давидів друг, до міста. А Авесало́м також увійшов до Єрусалиму.

Chapter 15

1 AND after this, Absalom prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

2 And Absalom rose up early and stood beside the king's gate; and it was so that when any man had a case to be tried before the king, then Absalom called him to him, and said, Of what city are you? And he said, Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.

3 And Absalom said to him, I see your arguments are good and just; but there is no man deputed by the king to hear you.

4 Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made a judge in the land, that every man who has a lawsuit or a cause might come to me, and I would do him justice!

5 And whenever a man arose to do him obeisance, he held him by his hand and kissed him.

6 And in this manner did Absalom to all the Israelites who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

7 And it came to pass after four years Absalom said to the king, Let me go and fulfil my vow which I have vowed to the LORD, in Hebron;

8 For your servant made a vow while I abode at Geshur and in Aram, saying. If the LORD will bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.

9 And the king said to him, Go in peace. So he arose and went to Hebron.

10 But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, Absalom reigns in Hebron.

11 And with Absalom went two hundred men from Jerusalem, but they went innocently, not knowing anything of the plot.

12 And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, and brought him from his city, from Giloh, while he was offering sacrifices. And the conspiracy grew strong; and the people increased continually on the side of Absalom.

13 And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom.

14 And David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, Arise and let us flee; for we shall not else escape from Absalom; make haste to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly and bring evil upon us and smite the city with the edge of the sword.

15 And the king's servants said to the king, Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever our lord the king wants to do.

16 So the king went forth and all his household after him. And the king left ten women who were concubines to keep his house.

17 And the king went forth and all the people after him, and they halted in a place at a distance from the city.

18 And all his servants passed on beside him; and all his noblemen and all his army and all the Gittites who had followed him from Gath passed on before the king.

19 Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Why do you also go with us? Depart from the king; for you are a stranger, and also you were brought captive from your country.

20 You came but yesterday, and shall I trouble you today to go with us, seeing I go wherever I may? Return, and make your brethren to settle down; it will be well with you.

21 But Ittai answered the king and said, As the LORD lives and as the king lives, wherever my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there will your servant be also.

22 And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. So Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men and all the little ones that were with him.

23 And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over; then the king also passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over toward the way of the wilderness.

24 And behold, Zadok the priest went also and all the Levites who were with him, bearing the ark of God; and Abiathar went up and stood until all the people had finished passing over from the city.

25 Then the king said to Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city; perhaps I shall find favor in the eyes of the LORD, and he will bring me back again and show me both it and his habitation;

26 But if he shall say, I have no delight in you; behold, here I am, let him do to me as seems good in his sight.

27 The king said also to Zadok the priest, Return, go to the city in peace, you and your sons with you, Ahimaaz your son and Nathan the son of Abiathar.

28 See, I will wait in the plain of the wilderness until there come a man from you to en_lbp_inform me.

29 Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God back to Jerusalem; and they remained there.

30 And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet and wept as he went up and had his head covered and all the people who were with him also covered their heads, and they went up on foot, weeping as they went.

31 And they told David, saying, Ahithophel has conspired with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, nullify the counsel of Ahithophel.

32 And when David came to a place where he used to worship God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat torn and earth upon his head;

33 And David said to him, If you pass on with me, then you will be a burden to me;

34 But if you return to the city, say to Absalom, I am your servant, O king, as I was your father's servant hitherto. And now, I the king, want you to go and defeat the counsel of Ahithophel.

35 Behold, there are with you in the city Zadok and Abiathar the priests. Therefore it shall be that every word you hear from the king's house, you shall tell to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

36 Behold, they have there with them their two sons Ahimaaz Zadok's son and Nathan Abiathar's son; and by them you shall send to me everything that you can hear.

37 So Hushai, David's friend, came to the city, just as Absalom entered Jerusalem.

2 And Absalom rose up early and stood beside the king's gate; and it was so that when any man had a case to be tried before the king, then Absalom called him to him, and said, Of what city are you? And he said, Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.

3 І говорив до нього Авесалом: „Дивися, слова́ твої добрі та слушні, та в царя нема кому тебе вислухати“.

3 And Absalom said to him, I see your arguments are good and just; but there is no man deputed by the king to hear you.

4 І говорив Авесалом: „Коли б мене настановлено суддею в Краю́, то до мене прихо́див би кожен чоловік, що мав би супере́чку чи судо́ву справу, а я випра́вдував би його“.

4 Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made a judge in the land, that every man who has a lawsuit or a cause might come to me, and I would do him justice!

5 І, бувало, коли хто підхо́див поклонитися йому, то він простягав свою руку, і хапав його́ та цілував його́.

6 І робив Авесало́м, як ось це, усьому Ізраїлеві, хто прихо́див на суд до царя. І крав Авесалом серця́ Ізраїлевих людей!

6 And in this manner did Absalom to all the Israelites who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

7 І сталося в кінці сорока літ, і сказав Авесало́м до царя: „Піду́ я та ви́повню обі́тницю мою, що я обіцяв був Господе́ві в Хевро́ні.

7 And it came to pass after four years Absalom said to the king, Let me go and fulfil my vow which I have vowed to the LORD, in Hebron;

8 Бо раб твій, коли осів був у Ґешу́рі в Арамі, склав обі́тницю, говорячи: Якщо Господь справді поверне мене до Єрусалиму, то я бу́ду служити Господе́ві“.

8 For your servant made a vow while I abode at Geshur and in Aram, saying. If the LORD will bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.

9 І сказав йому цар: „Іди з миром!“ І той устав та й пішов до Хеврону.

9 And the king said to him, Go in peace. So he arose and went to Hebron.

10 І порозсилав Авесалом виві́дувачів по всіх Ізраїлевих племенах, говорячи: „Коли ви почуєте су́рмлення сурми́, то скажете: Зацарював Авесало́м у Хевроні!“

10 But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, Absalom reigns in Hebron.

11 А з Авесаломом пішли двісті чоловіка з Єрусалиму, що були покликані; а йшли вони в простоті́ своїй, і нічо́го не знали.

11 And with Absalom went two hundred men from Jerusalem, but they went innocently, not knowing anything of the plot.

12 І послав Авесалом покликати ґілонянина Ахіто́фела, Давидового дора́дника, з його міста з Ґіло, як він мав прино́сити жертви. І був то сильний бунт, і народ все змножувався з Авесало́мом.

12 And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, and brought him from his city, from Giloh, while he was offering sacrifices. And the conspiracy grew strong; and the people increased continually on the side of Absalom.

13 І прийшов вісник до Давида, говорячи: „Серце ізра́їльтян стало за Авесаломом“.

13 And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom.

14 І сказав Давид до всіх своїх слуг, що були з ним в Єрусалимі: „Уставайте і втікаймо, а то не зможемо втекти перед Авесаломом. Поспішіть відійти, щоб він не поспішив і не догнав нас, і щоб не було нам від нього лиха, і не побив цього міста ві́стрям меча“.

14 And David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, Arise and let us flee; for we shall not else escape from Absalom; make haste to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly and bring evil upon us and smite the city with the edge of the sword.

15 І сказали цареві царські́ раби: „Усе, що вибере наш пан цар, то при то́му твої раби!“

15 And the king's servants said to the king, Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever our lord the king wants to do.

16 I вийшов цар та ввесь його дім пі́шки, а цар позоставив десять жіно́к наложниць, щоб стерегли дім.

16 So the king went forth and all his household after him. And the king left ten women who were concubines to keep his house.

17 І вийшов цар та ввесь народ пішки, і стали вони в Бет-Гамерхаку.

17 And the king went forth and all the people after him, and they halted in a place at a distance from the city.

18 А всі його слу́ги йшли перед ним, а також усі керетяни й усі пелетяни та всі ґатяни, — шість сотень чоловіка, що прийшли були пі́шки з Ґату, ішли перед царем.

18 And all his servants passed on beside him; and all his noblemen and all his army and all the Gittites who had followed him from Gath passed on before the king.

19 А цар сказав до ґатянина Ітта́я: „Чого пі́деш і ти з нами? Вернися, і сиди з тим царем, бо ти чужий та й вигна́нець зо свого місця.

19 Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Why do you also go with us? Depart from the king; for you are a stranger, and also you were brought captive from your country.

20 Учора прийшов ти, а сьогодні я мав би турбувати тебе йти з нами? А я йду, куди піду́, — куди доведе́ться. Вернися, і забери братів своїх із собою. А Господь учинить тобі милість та правду!“

20 You came but yesterday, and shall I trouble you today to go with us, seeing I go wherever I may? Return, and make your brethren to settle down; it will be well with you.

21 І відповів Ітта́й до царя та й сказав: „Як живий Господь і живий мій пан цар, — тільки в то́му місці, в якому бу́де мій пан цар, — чи то на смерть, чи то на життя, — то там буде твій раб!“

21 But Ittai answered the king and said, As the LORD lives and as the king lives, wherever my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there will your servant be also.

22 І сказав Давид до Іттая: „Іди й перейди!“ І перейшов ґатянин Іттай та всі його люди, та всі діти, що були з ним.

22 And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. So Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men and all the little ones that were with him.

23 А ввесь той Край плакав ревним голосом, і ввесь народ перехо́див. А цар перехо́див поті́к Кедро́н, і ввесь народ перехо́див доро́гою до пустині.

23 And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over; then the king also passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over toward the way of the wilderness.

24 А ось ішли й Садо́к та всі Левити з ним, що не́сли ковчега Божого заповіту. І вони поставили Божого ковчега, а Евіята́р прино́сив цілопалення, аж поки ввесь наро́д не вийшов із міста.

24 And behold, Zadok the priest went also and all the Levites who were with him, bearing the ark of God; and Abiathar went up and stood until all the people had finished passing over from the city.

25 І сказав цар до Садока: „Поверни Божого ковчега до міста. Якщо я знайду́ милість у Господніх оча́х, і Він поверне мене, то я побачу Його та ме́шкання Його.

25 Then the king said to Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city; perhaps I shall find favor in the eyes of the LORD, and he will bring me back again and show me both it and his habitation;

26 А якщо Він скаже так: Не бажаю тебе, — ось я: нехай зробить мені, як добре в оча́х Його́“.

26 But if he shall say, I have no delight in you; behold, here I am, let him do to me as seems good in his sight.

27 І сказав цар до священика Садо́ка: „Чи ти бачиш це все? Вернися з миром до міста, а син твій Ахіма́ац та син Евіятарів Йоната́н, оби́два ваші сини будуть із вами.

27 The king said also to Zadok the priest, Return, go to the city in peace, you and your sons with you, Ahimaaz your son and Nathan the son of Abiathar.

28 Глядіть, я буду проволікати в степа́х цієї пусти́ні, аж поки не при́йде від вас слово, щоб повідо́мити мене“.

28 See, I will wait in the plain of the wilderness until there come a man from you to en_lbp_inform me.

29 І повернув Садо́к та Евіятар Божого ковчега до Єрусалиму, та й осілися там.

29 Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God back to Jerusalem; and they remained there.

30 А Давид схо́див узбіччям на го́ру Оливну, та все плакав. А голова його була покрита, і він ішов бо́сий. А ввесь народ, що був із ним, усі позакривали го́лову свою, і все йшли та плакали...

30 And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet and wept as he went up and had his head covered and all the people who were with him also covered their heads, and they went up on foot, weeping as they went.

31 А Давидові доне́сли, говорячи: „Ахіто́фел серед зрадників з Авесало́мом“. І Давид сказав: „Господи, учини ж нерозумною Ахітофелову раду!“

31 And they told David, saying, Ahithophel has conspired with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, nullify the counsel of Ahithophel.

32 І сталося, коли вийшов Давид на верхі́в'я, де вклоняються Богові, аж ось навпроти нього аркеянин Хуша́й у роздертій ту́ніці, а порох на його голові.

32 And when David came to a place where he used to worship God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat torn and earth upon his head;

33 І сказав йому Давид: „Якщо ти пі́деш зо мною, то будеш мені тягаре́м.

33 And David said to him, If you pass on with me, then you will be a burden to me;

34 А якщо ве́рнешся до міста й скажеш Авесаломові: „Я буду раб твій, о ца́рю! Я був віддавна рабом батька твого, а тепер я твій раб“, то зламаєш мені Ахіто́фелеву раду.

34 But if you return to the city, say to Absalom, I am your servant, O king, as I was your father's servant hitherto. And now, I the king, want you to go and defeat the counsel of Ahithophel.

35 І чи ж не будуть там із тобою священики Садо́к та Евіята́р? І станеться, — усяку річ, яку ти почуєш із царе́вого дому, розповіси́ священикам Садо́кові та Евіята́рові.

35 Behold, there are with you in the city Zadok and Abiathar the priests. Therefore it shall be that every word you hear from the king's house, you shall tell to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

36 Ось там із ними двоє їхніх синів: Ахіма́ац у Садока та Йонатан у Евіята́ра — і ви пошлете через них до мене кожне слово, яке почуєте“.

36 Behold, they have there with them their two sons Ahimaaz Zadok's son and Nathan Abiathar's son; and by them you shall send to me everything that you can hear.

37 І ввійшов Хуша́й, Давидів друг, до міста. А Авесало́м також увійшов до Єрусалиму.

37 So Hushai, David's friend, came to the city, just as Absalom entered Jerusalem.
